Myopia or nearsightedness happens when the eye is slightly longer than usual, so the light rays come to focus closer to the front of the eye.  Why does this happen?  There is no clear answer to this question, but the good news is that there are things that can be done to provide good vision to nearsighted people and actually halt its progression.
